Ancient walls that tell stories

With 2.800sqm (30.139sqft) spread over 4 floors, the Palau Moxó is one of the few fully baroque palaces in Barcelona that were not destroyed during the Spanish Civil War. It is protected as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest and it is part of the Barcelona Catalogue of Historical Artistic Architectural Heritage.

The entire building preserves numerous original architectural elements of enormous historical and heritage value, which reflect its owners' economic and social power. The façade with rococo-style sgraffiti, the grand staircase leading to the main floor (the most prestigious element in the civil architecture of the time), the gallery of semicircular arches, the Tuscan columns, the old coach house with vaults made by stone from Montjuïc, the coats of arms carved in stone, the halls lavish decoration... Every detail in the Palau tells the story about an influential family as well as an era and a city.

The architectural renovation of the Palau was commissioned to the prestigious architects TdB in 2023. The property redesign is conceived as a reinterpretation of the palace's history while maintaining the 18th century mansion original structure. The old carriage entrance is dedicated to host events. The former representation rooms on the main floor or noble floor are now used as event rooms. And the family staff quarters on the upper floors are transformed into luxury duplex residences, organised around a distribution courtyard.

The restoration also highlights the original architectural details, using elements characteristic of Catalan tradition. Wooden beams, masonry walls and Catalan ceramic vaults are combined, the wooden carpentry is recovered and the coffered ceilings are restored.
